Health Minister Abdulla Nazim has assured the public that recent reforms to the Aasandha national insurance scheme will not impose any additional burden on residents. Speaking at the inauguration of Health Expo 2024, Minister Nazim highlighted the government's commitment to improving the health and well-being of the population through a more efficient and streamlined Aasandha system. He emphasized that these reforms, guided by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s directives, are intended to strengthen healthcare services without causing concern for citizens.
The Minister further explained that the government is consulting experts to address current issues in the Aasandha system, aiming to implement sustainable solutions that prevent long-term strain on both the system and the public. He stressed that tackling these challenges now is essential to avoid a greater financial impact in the future.
Among the recent changes to Aasandha is a shift in billing, which now prioritizes private insurance for outpatient services where applicable. However, Minister Nazim reassured that individuals whose private insurance does not cover specific services, or whose insurance has expired, will continue to receive support through Aasandha.
