President Dr. Muizzu Meets with UN Secretary-General António Guterres

President H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with H.E. António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), in Antigua and Barbuda today on the sidelines of the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4).
During the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu reiterated the Maldives' commitment to strengthening the close ties between the UN and the Maldives. He emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The Secretary-General commended the Maldives for its active engagement in climate justice initiatives and assured his full support for the country's efforts.
The discussion also focused on the specific challenges faced by the Maldives as a SIDS, including the complex financial negotiations that hinder development efforts. President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the need for more accessible and flexible financing solutions to support the sustainable development of small island nations.
Both leaders expressed a shared eagerness to enhance collaboration and strengthen existing relations. They underscored the importance of mutual support and cooperation in overcoming the developmental and environmental challenges faced by SIDS.
