Zakat House to Begin Fitr Zakat Distribution

According to the Zakat House, there will be 8,000 MVR per person distributed to those who are registered as needy individuals. Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed stated that the money would be deposited directly into those individuals bank accounts.

The Fitr Zakat will also help the families of those whose wives and children have become poor due to the father’s imprisonment for various reasons, and those who are in children's shelters and centers for people with special needs, he said.

The minister said that historically, Fitr Zakat has been distributed to the needy in the islands. If there is no needy person in an island, it is distributed to the nearest island in need of aid.

Minister Dr. Shaheem said the number of people who paid Fitr Zakat this year is higher.

The Zakat House said that as of the 20th day of this Ramadan, 4.49 million MVR has been collected as Fitr Zakat. The distribution of wheat accepted as Fitr Zakat started yesterday.

According to Zakat House, the wheat distribution is taking place in the hall of Aminiya School. They will also be distributed to those on the needy list.

Last year, 9 million MVR was received as Fitr Zakat. 3,450 MVR per head was distributed to 1,736 people in Male. A total of more than 8,000 people are currently registered in the register for needy.
