The Government has come to an agreement with the contractor to complete the installation of the elevators in the Hiyaa flats within one year from the start of the practical work, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.
In the "President's Answers" series, broadcast by the President's Office, Haleema Shahiya asked when the installation of elevators in the Hiyaa flats will be completed as promised by the President.
He noted that the lack of elevators in the Hiyaa flats makes it very difficult for children and the elderly to wait in long queues to get on the elevators, even during the month of Ramadan.
Replying to Haleema's question, the President said that the work of installing additional elevators in the shelter flats has now been contracted. Two elevators will be installed in each tower, with one in each pair being large enough to carry stretchers for patients, he said.
Noting that the agreement has been signed, the President said the detailed drawings required for the work are being prepared. The contractor will be mobilized to the Hiyaa flat area in April, he said.
The President further said that the government will soon give the advance payment to the company. He said the agreement stipulates that the work should be mobilized within one month of receipt of the advance.
"Then the agreement is to install all the elevators within one year of the start of the practical work. This is a lot of elevators, two elevators in each building. However, the government will encourage the contractor to complete it much sooner," he said.
