The government plans to develop new sporting facilities in the second phase of Hulhumale soon, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.
The President stated this in response to a question from Nishreena Musa in the 'President's Answer' series today regarding the lack of adequate sports facilities in the second phase of Hulhumale.
The President said the second phase of Hulhumale had been neglected by the previous government.
We have decided to carry out all of the necessary development projects for the second phase of Hulhumale, namely the construction of sports courts, parks and leisure areas.
President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu
The President said the area where the Hiyaa towers are located is the most densely populated area, and the government will give high priority to establish various sports facilities in collaboration with the Housing Development Corporation and others. The President said that the work of establishing special handball courts for women will be started very soon.
The Hiyaa towers in Hulhumale were built during the last government. With sixteen 25-storey towers, the area is the most densely populated area in Maldives. President Dr. Muizzu’s government recently completed work on a temporary mosque near the Hiyaa towers for the residents of the area to attend prayers during the month of Ramadan.
The residents and associations established in the area have already pointed out that the previous government did not pay any attention to establishing adequate facilities in the area when people started settling in the second phase of Hulhumale.
