Parliamentary Proceedings Halted Due to Insufficient Members as Case is Presented to Hold Regular Parliamentary Sessions

Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef presented a motion in Parliament today to schedule regular sessions of Parliament, however the Parliament was adjourned due to a lack of members present in the session.
Hassan Latheef moved a motion calling for the holding of ordinary sessions of the Parliament at least three days a week in accordance with the rules of the Parliament.
In debate, Hassan said that Article 47 of the Parliament stipulates that general sessions shall be held at least three days a week during the session of the Parliament. Article 25 of the rules clearly states the days and schedule of the meetings, which are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. The Parliament does not hold sessions outside of the responsibility given, except under emergency sessions.
Therefore, the resolution calls for the sessions to be held in accordance with the decisions of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament is moved under Rule 109(h) of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.
The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Ahmed Saleem (Salle) opened the matter to the floor and gave more than five minutes to ring the bell.
However, according to the rules of Parliament, the case can only be continued if 22 members are present on the floor of the House. There were 16 members on the floor at the time. Therefore, the Speaker adjourned the case.
