Aasandha Statistics Show Dornier & Indian Helicopters Barely Used For Medical Evacuations in 2023

Aasandha has shared the number of medical evacuations made in recent years since the introduction of the service under the Right to Information Act.
According to the data shared by Aasandha, patients were moved from one place to another 4,384 times last year.
Most of the emergency patients were transported from one place to another using the MNDF sea ambulances. These transportations occurred 2259 times. The next largest number of patients were carried by private launches, which happened 1083 times.
Scheduled and charter flights each carried patients 743 times. A patient was also carried by seaplane once.
The Indian-operated Dornier aircraft has carried patients 92 times, according to figures shared by Aasandha. The two helicopters operated by India were used to transport patients only 35 times. So, of the 4,384 medical evacuations that had to be done last year, only 0.7 percent were done using helicopters. and 2 percent were carried out through the Dornier.
Maldivian recently unveiled the new air ambulance, which is to be used to solve the difficulties in transporting patients from one place to another. A Maldivian Airlines Dash-8 aircraft has been converted into an air ambulance and has been in service since 1st of this month.
The government has also announced that a seaplane will soon be converted into an air ambulance to transport patients from islands and areas without airports.
The government says the introduction of air ambulances will address the problem of delays in transporting patients due to congestion in airline schedules and ease the suffering of patients who are currently unable to get to treatment facilities within a reasonable time.
