One Killed in Bomb Attack in Manipur, India

One person has been killed, and another injured, in a bomb blast in Imphal, northeastern Manipur state.
The casualties were suffered following an attack on a university campus in Imphal. Indian security forces confirmed that an improvised explosive device was used in the attack.
The injured man has been admitted to hospital after a bomb blast on the campus of DM College in Imphal. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the attack is believed to be linked to ongoing clashes between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur. Some 200 people have been killed in clashes between the two tribes since May last year.
Manipur security forces said the bomb exploded inside the office of the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU). Following the attack on the university, the office of the United Committee Manipur, a civil society organisation, was set on fire. Imphal police have not commented on the attack.
Throughout recent years, tensions have been high between various ethnic and religious groups within India, notably the conflicts that have been on the rise between the Muslim minority and Hindu majority.
