The no-confidence motion against the Speaker Mohamed Aslam and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Saleem has been withdrawn.
On the 28th of last month, 23 of the total 24-member PNC parliamentary group signed a resolution to move a no-confidence vote against the leaders of the Parliament.
The PNC said it withdrew the case because it did not appear to be able to proceed with it at this time due to the MDP holding a majority in the Parliament.
The PNC said Aslam and Saleem had acted to promote the interests of a particular party and had violated their responsibilities under the Constitution. The no-confidence motion against Speaker Aslam and Vice-Speaker Saleem was to the parliamentary office on 4th of this month.
Aslam and Saleem’s party, the MDP, is still the majority party in parliament. The ruling PNC is the minority party with 24 members.
