Minister Ihusaan Aims to Develop Police Service to better Serve the People

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Captain (retired) Ali Ihusaan has said that the government's aim in shaping the police service is to provide services closer to what the people need.
Speaking with PSM, Ihsan said the most important task of the police service is to formulate a strategy for the next five years. The main idea of formulating the strategy is to shape the police institution to ensure the safety and security of the people, he said.
The top priority will be to provide services closer to the people’s needs, he said, adding that the neighborhood police model, which is already being implemented by the police service, will be further expanded. The minister said he would also complete and accelerate police training. Minister Ihusaan said there are still a large number of police officers in need of further training.
"At the same time, the establishment of the necessary facilities to provide modern services to the people is one of our top priorities. The people want the police investigations to be expedited and efficient. This will also be our priority," Ihusaan said.
He stated that one of the top priorities of the police service is to increase the number of policemen on the streets to ensure the safety of the crowded streets. Some policemen who were currently doing administrative work have also been deployed to the operation.
The minister said the traffic police service is currently working to ensure road safety and security by making changes to the service address the needs of the people.
Ihusaan added that there are 50 islands where police services have not started at all, but there will not be any islands where police services will not be available by the end of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's five-year term.
The President has decided to establish police services in 14 islands in the first 14 weeks of his administration. Police services have been established in six islands so far, he said.
