President-elect Dr. Muizzu Expresses High Hopes for Belt and Road Development Initiative, Foresees Global Benefits

In a recent interview with Xinhua, Dr. Muizzu, the president-elect, stated, ‘’China and the Maldives have a good relationship that goes back many years. There were so many development projects and close cooperation that were carried out very successfully in the country."

He also added that the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is the most iconic and transformational development project carried out so far in the Maldives. It has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, not only living here but also visiting the Maldives. The greater Male’ region got an uplift because of this very important project that connected Male’ and Hulhumale'.

President Elect Dr. Muizzu asserted, “Also, there are many other belt and road projects, such as social housing projects, airport development projects, and so on, that have received various assistance from the Chinese government. I think the Maldives needs that kind of assistance and development partnership with China.”

He believes that is the way forward and looks forward to that kind of assistance.
