he Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has taken legal action against the owner of the land where its headquarters once operated, filing a case in the Civil Court. The move comes after the party received a notice to vacate the premises located in front of Henver Artificial Beach back in April. According to reports, the landlord, who is known to be a supporter of President Mohammed Nasheed, has canceled the agreement and leased the land to another individual while delaying the MDP's eviction in accordance with the notice.
Despite the court order to vacate the premises, the MDP has remained on the land. In response, the party has now decided to pursue legal action against the landlord, citing breach of contract. In addition to seeking compensation for the violation of the agreement, the MDP has also requested an interim order from the court to halt the eviction until July.
The hearing for the interim order has been scheduled for the 29th of this month, allowing both parties an opportunity to present their arguments. The MDP is hopeful that the court will grant the interim order, providing them with temporary relief and allowing them to continue their operations from the headquarters while the legal dispute is ongoing.
