Alarming Incident: Mobile Snatched from Maldivian Student in Delhi

May 26, Malé, Maldives - A distressing incident involving a Maldivian student studying in New Delhi has sparked concerns for the safety of overseas students from the Maldives.
Hawwa Sinma, a student at St. Stephen College, was reportedly robbed by two unidentified men in the Kashmere Gate area of north Delhi on Tuesday, May 23. According to the Delhi Police, Sinma's mobile phone was snatched while she was en route to a college guest house in Vasant Kunj at about 10:45 a.m.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sagar Singh Kalsi, in his statement revealed, "When she reached an auto near Hanuman Mandir in Kashmere Gate area, two bike-borne boys came from behind and snatched her mobile phone and fled from the scene."

Sinma, a resident of Maldives, was reportedly left unharmed but understandably shaken by the incident.

The Delhi Police have promptly filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 356 (assault or criminal force in an attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person), 379 (punishment for theft), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Authorities are actively pursuing the investigation, utilizing CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the culprits. Kalsi ensured, "Police teams are scanning CCTV cameras in the area to identify the culprits and nab them."
