Vice President of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and MP from Guraidhoo constituency, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, has sharply criticized First Lady Fazna Ahmed's recent assertion that President Solih is a model of patience.
In response, Ghassan pointed to Solih's recent decree banning the "India out" movement and questioned the president's constitutional authority to issue such a decree.
The criticism from Ghassan comes on the heels of President Solih's campaign rally, where he was met with jeers and boos from opposition supporters just 200 feet away. Despite the disturbance, Fazna took to Facebook to praise Solih's patience in the face of such opposition.
However, it is worth noting that the opposition rally was disrupted by police, who barricaded protesters inside the artificial beach area. In addition, police arrested over 70 people in the past week alone. These actions call into question the true nature of Solih's patience and commitment to political pluralism.
