VIA sets a new record of runway movement

Velana International Airport (VIA) has set a new record for runway movement on 22nd December 2022.

According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) which manages Via, on 22nd December there were a total of 228 runway movements including 104 International, 104 domestic, and 20 general aviation.

This record was made with the newly opened runway at VIA, which was developed during President Yameen's administration.

President Yameen started a massive project to develop Velana International Airport. Under the project development of a new sea plane terminal, cargo terminal, runway, new international terminal, fuel farm were commenced. However since President Solih assumed office the work of the international passenger terminal has slowed down.
