Maldives welcomes 1.6 millionth visitor for 2022

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC) has revealed that the 1.6 millionth tourist to visit the Maldives this year is an Indian citizen.
The 1.6 millionth tourist to visit the Maldives this year was identified as Tejas Sanjay Kothari. He had come to the Maldives for his honeymoon. "This is his first visit to the country," the statement said.
MMPRC has set a target of 1.6 million tourist arrivals for this year. With 10 days left for the end of the year, that goal has been achieved.
Although the number of tourist arrivals is high, the revenue from tourism is not as high as it used to be. The main reason for this is that the price at which packages are sold to tourists has been lower than before due to the covid-19-induced economic slowdown across the globe.
However, the government is only looking at the number of tourists.
