The national airline, Maldivian has decided to increase their charges for extra baggage.
In a notice issued today, Maldivian stated that they have decided to charge USD 3.11 from every additional kilogram, starting December 7, 2022.
Maldivian stated that they have extended the extra baggage charges to Manavaralu Airport, Kooddoo Airport and Kaadedhdhoo Airport.
Maldivian claimed to have amended their schedule of charges following the amendment to the taxation on goods and services legislation.
The government has raised Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Tourism Goods and Services Tax (TGST) rates from 6 percent and 12 percent to 8 percent and 16 percent, respectively, effective January 2023.
Upon ratification of the amendment by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the cost of goods started to inflate. Businesses and commerce experts expect the prices to rise even further once the levy comes into effect on January 1.
