A campaign has begun in the Maldives, calling the government to strip Indian PM Modi off the honor 'The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen'.
The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen' is the highest civilian award in the Maldives and was conferred to Modi in 2019 by President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.
The campaign was started by Ali Rameez the operations manager of Jamiyyath Al-Salaf a local Islamic NGO.
The government met with criticism even back in 2019 when Modi was conferred with the honor. However, the government has not responded to the concerns of the public so far.
