Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that investigations into spray painting threats on opposition leader President Abdullah Yameen’s residence and headquarters of the opposition has been launched.
This is the second time a warning was given to the former President. The first threat came in video on social media. The individual in the video had since fled to India. Police is also investigating this warning.
The group behind the warning, a few days back, had staged a protest in front of President Yameen’s residence. Sources had reported to TMJ that the protest was funded by the Indian High Commission in the Maldives.
The residence and PPM headquarters are located quite close to the Chinese Embassy. A Police post is stationed in the vicinity and is staffed round the clock.
TMJ had questioned MPS on whether the officers stationed at the Police post had seen those individuals who spray painted the two locations. The media official refused to issue a statement.
The opposition had condemned the incident, and had called for a thorough investigation.
