The project to reclaim land in Thuraakunu (Haa Alifu), scheduled to be completed by 31 January, has still not begun as confirmed by the Thuraakunu Council.
The project, contracted on 1 October 2019, was scheduled to be completed on 30 January 2022. MVR 1,640,061 had been budgeted for the project in 2022, and MVR 1,282,658 had been budgeted for the project in 2023.
Mariyam Farusha, the Vice President of the Thuraakunu Council, told The Maldives Journal that a survey had been conducted regarding the reclamation. Nothing had been done since, she said.
Notably, several projects remain abandoned even though they had been contracted.
