A tourist died at Velana International Airport today.
Sources told The Maldives Journal that the tourist suffered a heart-attack and fell to the ground while they were in VIA's smoking area. The source said that airport employees attended to the tourist 10 minutes after they had fallen.
The tourist had then been taken to the airport's clinic, but the clinic had not provided the tourist with emergency care. The source said that the clinic had declined to provide the necessary care for the tourist as the tourist's identity could not be verified at the time.
The source told The Maldives Journal that the tourist had died and his body had been transferred to Tree Top Hospital. The tourist had been a British national.
Maldives Airports Company Limited, the main operator of Velana International Airport, had confirmed that a departing traveller had died. The Company's media official also stated that it seemed like the person had died of a heart-attack. They also confirmed that while the person had fallen to the ground in the smoking room, they had been immediately taken to be cared for at the airport's clinic.
