The state of public health emergency has been extended once again.
This is the 23rd time that the state of public health emergency has been extended since the first detection of COVID-19 in the Maldives. An order signed and released by Ahmed "Kerafa" Naseem, Minister of Health, stated that the state of public health emergency had been extended until 28 February 2022. He had written that the decision had been made on consultation with Maimoona Aboobakuru, Director General of Public Health, who had said that the virus still posed a threat to different parts of the country.
The state of public health emergency had been announced on 12 March 2020, and the state of emergency has been extended every month since.
The Maldives is facing a fourth wave of COVID-19, according to the Health Protection Agency. 12 people have died this month, and 2,800 people had tested positive yesterday.
