India Out Demonstration At Dhuvaafaru Today

An "India Out" demonstration took place in Dhuvaafaru (Raa Atoll) today.
The demonstration, organised by the opposition Progressive Congress Coalition, involved the spray-painting of the "India Military Out" slogan on the walls of private homes and other locations. Banners that expressed the island residents' support for the "India Out" movement were hung throughout the island.
Opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom had called on his supporters to spray-paint the "India Out" slogan on the walls of their homes.
The opposition leader has initiated a massive campaign that calls for the removal of Indian military personnel and assets from the Maldives. The government has responded to the campaign by casting many aspersions on the campaign, its supporters, and its motivations. On various occasions, the government has accused the campaign as being organised by drug traffickers and religious extremists.
After his acquittal of a five-year prison sentence by the Supreme Court, the former President has visited several islands to drum up support for the movement that he had adopted. The 'India Out' movement had begun as a grassroots campaign on social media and called for the removal of Indian military personnel and assets from the Maldives and also called for the disclosure of all classified military agreements made between the Indian and Maldivian governments.
The former President has been scheduled to visit Dhuvaafaru next weekend.
