Addu City's Hira School has won the Zayed Sustainability Prize in the Asian Global High School category.
The Zayed Prize, initiated in 2008, is awarded to parties who develop sustainable solutions in 5 categories.
Among the finalists for the South Asian region's Global High School category were Nepal's BlinkNow Foundation, India's Man Kuwari Hansa Higher Secondary School Barela.
Hira School had submitted a project to collect and preserve rainwater. The Zayed Prize would grant the school USD100,000 to run the project.
Hira School began 10 years ago in a tiny building in Addu. Today, it has become one of the best private schools in the country.
