Departure Taxes Imposed On All Passengers Departing From Local Airports

Since 1 January 2022, the government has begun collecting a Departure Tax from all travelers using local airports.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the bill regarding departure tax on 11 July, last year. The taxes are divided into 4 classes; the taxes imposed on Maldivians (USD12) are different from those on foreigners (USD30) using economy class. Both Maldivians and foreign nationals using the other classes have to pay equal taxes.
Business class passengers would be charged a fee of USD60, and USD90 from first-class passengers.
The government had included these fees in the government revenue estimated in the 2019 Budget. The bill that had been approved by the Majlis in 2019 was ratified in 20121.
