The national debt increased by MVR 2.5 billion in October 2021.
The monthly statistics published by the Ministry of Finance shows that the State had earned MVR 1.3 billion in October, but had spent MVR 3.8 billion in that same period; a loss of MVR 2.5 billion.
The excess expenditure had been funded by domestic and external loans.
MVR 2.3 billion had been spent to pay for the government's recurrent expenditures, almost MVR 1 billion more than what had been earned that month.
MVR 1.3 billion had been spent on PSIP, with MVR 1 billion having been spent on projects dealing with transportations.
