The government will announce the finalised minimum wage on Monday.
An official of the Economic Ministry told The Maldives Journal that the government would announce the finalised minimum wage on Monday, November 8. According to the official, the proposed minimum wage from the Minimum Wage Board had been altered.
Although the official declined to provide any details of these alterations, they confirmed that changes had indeed been made to the minimum wage requirements for large businesses.
The ruling Maldivian Democratic Party had vowed to introduce a minimum wage during its successful presidential and parliamentary campaigns. The government has given varying timelines as to when the minimum wage would be introduced.
Economic Minister, Fayyaz Ismail, had said that the Economic Ministry would finalise the minimum wage in a very short period of time once the Ministry had received the proposed minimum wage from the Minimum Wage Board.
