The investigation into the leaked audio recordings of three judges who had sat on the panel that sentenced the Opposition leader, former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, to a 5-year prison sentence is taking so much time due to delays in the police analysis of the recordings, said the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The JSC had said that although Maldives Police Service (MPS) had said that the results of their analysis would be complete within a period of two weeks; the JSC has not received any updates on the progress of the analysis.
The three judges on the panel who had allegedly appeared in the audio recordings are Judge Faiz Rashad, Judge Mohamed Sameer, and Judge Ali Adam. The JSC said that the investigation into the recordings had begun in August.
The JSC's Media Officer told Dhiyares that any further work regarding the audio recordings can only be done once the MPS had completed their analysis.
The MPS had procured the services of a civilian named Aslam Ali in order to conduct the analysis; this had come to light after the MPS Bid Committee published their procurement decisions, as per the Public Finance Regulation.
The MPS had not disclosed the quoted price of the procured services.
