Indian Teacher in Maldives Suspected of Sexual Abuse

Maldives Police Service has begun investigating a case of sexual abuse against a minor.
According to Maldives Police Service, the incident happened in a southern atoll of the Maldives as the case was lodged at the police on 23rd September. The suspect is an Indian national working as a teacher in the island. Education Ministry has now suspended the teacher for a period of 30 days.
The suspect has now left the island and is now in the capital Male'. Speaking to TMJ, a media official of the Maldives Police Service stated that they have not arrested anyone yet.
Crimes committed by Indian nationals in the Maldives are on the rise since President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih assumed office. Most Indians who commit crimes in the Maldives are deported without charging.
