Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has estimated that more than 1.5 million tourists will visit Maldives this year.
In an interview given to BBC International today, Minister Mausoom stated that even though the initial estimates showed a million tourists visiting the Maldives, those numbers have now increased with time.
The Minister noted that there had been an increase of incoming tourists to Maldives and that hopefully the goal of one million bed nights will hopefully be achieved.
According to the statistics by the Tourism Ministry, tourists spend on average eight nights in the Maldives. This is an increase compared to the usual one night that most guests spend.
Due to the spread of COVID19 across the globe, tourism has taken a hit along with global economy.
The Minister stated that due to tourism rising this will hopefully increase the economy amongst foreign countries as well.
