Gen. Shamaal Meets Alleged Human Rights Violator Gen. Aziz

Chief of Defense Force of Maldives Major General Abdulla Shamaal and a man who has been under the allegation of gross violation of human rights Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed has met.

General Shamaal is currently visiting Bangladesh upon General Aziz’s invite. MNDF has revealed that Aziz and Shamaal discussed the strengthening of the military relations between Bangladesh and India. Shamaal had thanked the General for the constant support from Bangladesh and for always maintaining close relations and between Maldives and Bangladesh military.

General Shamaal had also discussed the initiatives taken by the Maldivian Government to increase military capabilities and the help that Bangladesh can offer such as training programs and other training opportunities.

General Aziz is accused of gross human rights violations. Rapid Action Battalion, a paramilitary group in Bangladesh operating under Gen Aziz is infamous for enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killing, and torture. Al Jazeera News has recently released a report detailing the cruelty and human rights violations committed against the citizens by General Aziz and his family.
