MP Ahmed Shiyam (Naifaru) said that it seemed apparent that the government was neglecting resort employees.
Shiyam mentioned this during a debate pertaining to a motion introduced by PPM/PNC parliamentary group leader Adam Shareef Umar regarding safety of labourers at the Malé Port.
Shiyam said that the young people who worked in the tourism industry were most vulnerable to COVID-19. He pointed out that it was not only the government who remained neglectful of their plight.
He said that resort owners, with deep links to the government, treated resort workers with great cruelty and apparent neglect.
He pointed out that many of the systems and protocols set in place by the government were very irresponsible. He said that change was needed.
