Tourist Resorts Cheat at Inspections: Ministry of Tourism

Tourist resorts get their affairs in order in adherence to guidelines only when they receive word that an inspection from the Ministry of Tourism was imminent.

Ali Razzan, Senior Executive Director at the Ministry of Tourism, said that whenever an inspection was conducted at a tourist resort, they found that everything was in accordance to the guidelines. However, he said that the Ministry had reliable information that the tourist resorts had prepared for such inspections after receiving word of an imminent inspection.

The Ministry also had information that the tourist resorts had reverted to neglecting the guidelines after the inspections were over. Although no penalties had been levied on such resorts, he said that the Ministry was planning to run inspections at a higher frequency.

Since there was no contact between resort employees and guests, he said, it was more likely that resort employees caught the virus from people who were sent to be quarantined at the resorts.

Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases among resort employees, Razzan urged resort workers to pay more attention to safety protocols.
