President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has appointed Mohammed Mihad as the new managing director for Maldivian, the national airline of Maldives.
Until today Mihad was a board member of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). During President Nasheed's administration, Mihad was the CEO of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). In addition, he was also a director-general at the Ministry of Finance during President Maumoon's administration.
Mohamed holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (International) from Edith Cowan University Australia.
The managing director post of Maldivian became vacant after President Solih appointed former MD, Mohammed Rizvee as the managing director of the newly-formed Regional Airports Company.
National airline Maldivian has been turbulent times as most of the sources of revenue for the company stopped due to the covid-19 pandemic. Industry professionals have been calling to replace Rizvee for a long time now.
It came as a surprise to many when he was chosen to lead Regional Airports Company as the company has a bigger mandate than the national airline. Rizvee is the stepson of President Solih's own sister.
