This administration has provided historically record payouts to fishermen: President Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has claimed that his administration has provided more payouts to fishermen compared to any other previous administration.
His comments about record payments to fishermen were part of his speech given at the function held to commemorate National Unity Day. Speaking at the function he also noted that the current administration has tried to bring positive changes to MIFCO.
Elaborating on how the government has tried to further develop MIFCO President Solih stated that the government has provided MVR 571 million to the company. He also claimed that compared to the past 14 years MIFCO has bought more fish in the past year.
As such he noted that the company had bought more than 48,000 tons of fish and provided MVR 30 million as payment for these products. He also stated that the company paid MVR 840 million to fishermen and bought 44510 tons of fish on Saturday.
The President also noted that to develop the fishing industry the industry needs to be privatized. However, he stated that he did not believe that this is the right moment for privatization.
