President Nasheed sends Christmas greetings

Speaker of Parliament President Mohamed Nasheed has sent Christmas greetings via a tweet.

Maldivian religious scholars have stated that sending Christmas greetings is prohibited in Islam. As such a religious NGO Ilmuveringe Gulhun has stated that celebrating Christmas and sending Christmas could be deemed as an act of apostasy.

In his tweet, President Nasheed wished a wonderful Christmas to all those celebrating the day. While President Nasheed has sent out Christmas greetings, Sheikh Hussain Rasheed, a staunch supporter of President Nasheed has voiced support for sending greetings on the occasion of Christmas day.

President Nasheed and senior members of his party MDP have sent out Christmas greetings and well wishes.
