Member of Parliament for Faresmaathodaa constituency Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that filing criminal charges against former Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam is part of the government’s attempts to defame individuals who have served the nation.
Hussain Mohamed Latheef’s stated this in a tweet in response to the news that the anti-corruption watchdog ACC has decided to send General Shiyam’s case for prosecution. According to ACC Shiyam is being charged with corruption for providing accommodation to his father from a VIP housing facility located inside a Coast Guard base from 2017 onwards.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) also stated that General Shiyam was being charged with misuse of official authority and misuse of official authority to provide illicit benefits to an individual.
Referring to the case, Hussain Mohamed Latheef stated that this was part of the current government’s efforts to defame individuals who have served the nation with loyalty. He also noted that the actions of the government prove that the government is running out of options.
