Fishermen stage protest at Felivaru demanding to meet the President

Several fishermen have gathered near Felivaru to protest issues faced by fishermen.
Twenty fishing vessels participated in the protest. The fishermen on these vessels have docked their vessels near the island and have been voicing out their demands. According to the fishermen, they are protesting due to prolonged issues that have not been resolved.
The demonstrators are demanding to receive adequate prices for their catch and alleviating difficulties faced in obtaining ice from Felivaru. Their demands also include MIFCO acquiring Sh. Keekimini and making the island operational. They have also called on Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company MIFCO to alleviate the collection of fish at Felivaru.
According to the fishermen protesting in heavy rain, their biggest demand is to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. During President Solih’s visit to Lhaviyani Atoll, he visited Felivaru and met the fishermen present at the island.
Resolving issues faced by fishermen, ensuring that fishermen earn dollars, and providing fair and adequate prices for their catch is a presidential vow of President Solih.
