An economically naïve administration cannot solve the issues faced by fishermen: Dr. Jameel

Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has stated that an economically naïve administration cannot solve the issues faced by fishermen.
Dr. Jameel’s statement came via a tweet in response to the fishermen’s protests at Felivaru. The fishermen taking part in the protest at Felivaru are demanding to receive fair and adequate payment for their catch as promised by the government. They are also demanding to facilitate daily offloading of their daily catch.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih came to power with the promises of providing fair and adequate payments for the fishermen’s catch and to ensure that fishermen receive USD. However, after the control on lowest price at fishermen’s catch was bought was removed the price of fish has plummeted along with the fishermen’s income. The protestors are also demanding to meet President Solih.
In response to the protests, Dr. Jameel stated that the fishermen are being neglected due to PPM’s loss of political power. He also stated that an administration that did not know what was happening to the economy cannot provide solutions to the problems faced by fishermen.
Dr. Jameel also noted that MDP’s supermajority was unable to provide fair remuneration to the fishermen and that neglecting the fishermen would negatively impact the country. He also stated that the only way to get fair remuneration was to defeat the government in the upcoming elections.
