Member of Parliament for Eydhafushi Constituency and PPM’s parliamentary group leader Ahmed Saleem has criticized former President Nasheed’s claims that he wept when he heard that former President Yameen was sentenced to jail.
MP Saleem who is also the minority leader of the parliament tweeted saying that Nasheed shed tears of joy when he heard the news of President Yameen’s sentencing. He also noted that political power fades away very fast.
Speaking to the press, Nasheed stated that President Yameen’s jail sentence is not something he is happy about, and nor does he celebrates it. He also stated that the press might have noticed fireworks, and music shows when he was imprisoned during President Yameen’s regime. However, he stated that he does not wish President Yameen to be treated likewise and that he wet due to sorrow on the day President Yameen was imprisoned.
President Nasheed also stated that President Yameen declined offers to be freed from prison. The government had proposed a deal to President Yameen to leave the country. However, he had declined the offer.
