President Yameen is not making deals with the government as he is an astute patriot: MP Shiyaam

Member of Parliament for Naifaru Constituency Ahmed Shiyam has stated that former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is not making deals with the government to gain freedom from the prison as he is an astute patriot.

His comments were published in a tweet responding to the Speaker of Parliament President Mohamed Nasheed’s claim that President Yameen rejected offers to be freed from prison. President Nasheed claimed that President Yameen declined the offer to be freed from prison. He also stated that he was offered a similar deal during President Yameen’s administration and that he accepted the offer.

Information received to the Maldives Journal from credible sources indicates that the deal offered to President Yameen was the opportunity to go abroad for medical purposes. Home Minister Imran Abdulla offered the deal to President Yameen on behalf of the government. According to sources President Yameen declined the offer and informed the government that he will remain in Maldives.

Shiyam’s tweet regarding this stated that President Yameen will not accept any irresponsible deals and that this is the major difference between him and other political leaders. He also stated that this was the reason behind President Yameen’s successes.

He also stated that President Yameen is a leader who has strong principles and that he values the citizens over his own interests. Shiyaam also noted that President Yameen chooses the right path instead of choosing shortcuts to achieve his goals and that he is an astute patriotic leader.
