Former Chief Justice Ahmed Abdulla Didi has refuted the claims of security forces entering the Supreme Court premises after removing the court’s roof and arresting the judges on the orders of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The former Chief Justice was responding to former Member of Parliament for Feydhoo Constituency Alhan Fahmy’s tweet which called on the authorities to investigate the case of military officers forcefully entering the court premises after removing the building’s roof and arresting 2 justices of the court.
Supreme Court’s ruling on the first February 2018 ordered authorities to release several individuals who were incarcerated at the time. Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi was a justice of the court at the time. Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed were arrested regarding the incident.
Referring to the case Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi refuted the claims of military officers forcefully entering the court premises after removing the building’s roof and arresting two justices of the court. He also stated that authorities should investigate the attempt to overthrow the legitimate government at the time in collusion with some justices of the Supreme Court should be investigated in relation to the first February order.
