Daily tourist arrivals to the Maldives has reached more than 4000 people since the country reopened its borders following the Covid-19 lockdown.
According to the statistics published by the Tourism Ministry, Maldives received 4000 tourists last Saturday. This is the largest number of international arrivals to the country since February 2020.
During the past week, air traffic movements in the Velana International Airport has increased by 15 percent. During this period international arrivals have increased by 32 percent.
Before the Covid-19 lockdown, Velana International Airport received 4000 to 5000 on peak days. During the immediate aftermath of the opening of the border on 15th July 2020, the number of tourist arrivals dwindled, however, the numbers have started increasing recently.
