Raajje TV’s efforts in bringing the truth has strengthened our democracy: President Solih

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a greeting on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Raajje TV which is operated by Member of Parliament for Hoarafushi Constituency Ahmed Saleem.

Tweeting on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the channel President Solih stated that truth and facts are important for democracies to function. He also stated that Raajje TV’s work in this regard has strengthened the democracy of Maldives.

Raajje TV is a highly partisan TV channel that undertook a lead role in spreading disinformation about the previous administration when MDP was the opposition party. Due to several ethically questionable activities of the channel Raajje TV was fined several times by the Broadcasting Commission.
Raajje TV was instrumental in spreading dissent in the wake of former President Nasheed resigning on 7th February and the subsequent riots that took place in the country. During these riots, the channel falsely claimed that the police had killed an individual from Addu.
Several journalists who worked for Raajje TV when the ruling party MDP was part of the opposition are currently serving in several political positions of the administration.
