Maldives National Defense Force Inaugurates “MNDF Air Corps”

The new branch of the Maldivian army was inaugurated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Chief of Army Staff.
Article 243(h) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives stipulates that the main purpose of the army service is to protect the territory of Maldives, the Special Economic Zone, and the people of Maldives. Article 6(h) of Law No. 1/2008 (Army Act) states that the main divisions of the army include the air security force.
Therefore, the President and Chief of Army Staff have ordered the Army to be reorganized as stipulated in the Constitution and the Army Act. The statement said that President Dr. Muizzu has decided to create an air force, called the MNDF Air Corps, to enhance and develop the capabilities of the military.
With the establishment of the MNDF Air Corps, the first unmanned aerial combat vehicle (UAV) was introduced into the service of the air security force.
Although this is the beginning of the service, the government aims to introduce manned and unmanned systems to the army and continue to develop the army's air service to the extent that the state's resources permit.
In a statement released by the President’s Office, it was noted that 99.7 percent of the country is marine, and all aspects of life are connected to the sea. The territories defined in the Constitution and laws provide a safe environment for the people to develop economic industries, conduct social activities and benefit freely.
In addition, the establishment of the Maldives Navy Air Service will enable the Maldivian State to fulfill its responsibilities in the Indian Ocean and play a more meaningful role in ensuring the safety and security of the Indian Ocean.
The Government has stated that it will always work to develop the National Defense Force to fulfill its responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution and laws, and to strengthen defense and security relations with friendly countries with their assistance and assistance.
