No Projects Implemented Through Loans in Last Five Years Have Benefitted Businesses: President

There is no benefit to any business in Maldives from any of the projects undertaken by the government through loans in the last five years, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said yesterday.
The President, who is currently on a tour of four northern atolls, said the country needs to solve major national problems; reviving the economy, establishing a creative economy for the youth, expanding the fisheries industry, and improving the food sector to establish security. He has stated that the process to enact all of these changes has already begun under his government.
The President reiterated that Maldives has now received investment proposals for the first time for the establishment of the Special Economic Zone.
Therefore, these will bring wealth to the pockets of the people, and the projects under the 20 MOUs signed with China will enrich the people, as they did when the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge was built in the past, he said.
None of the projects carried out by the loans brought to Maldives in the last five years have benefited any business in the country.

The President said the days of wealth are coming, and the opposition knows that these days will come to the people. Therefore, it would not be wise to knowingly interfere with it, he said.
“This is an important national moment that is coming to you all. Thinking and making decisions is very important from a national perspective, from a development perspective, and from an individual wealth perspective,” he said, referring to the parliamentary elections occurring next month.
