Abdulla Shahid, the Minister of Foreign Affairs who is currenlty serving as the President of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, mentioned that he saw that the Maldivian people were "very pleased" that he was able to so quickly accept President Solih's invitation to visit the Maldives. Shahid is currently visiting the Maldives in his capacity as the UNGA President.
In an appearance on RaajjeTV's "Fashamaa" programme, Shahid mentioned that winning the presidency of the UNGA was a source of pride and joy for any nation. Any person who is elected as President of the UNGA is invited to visit their home country, he said.
When President Solih had invited Shahid to visit the Maldives in his capacity as UNGA President, he said that his colleagues at the United Nations had told him that it would be a source of joy to the Maldivian people.
"When I came to the Maldives, I saw that the people were very pleased and content that I had accepted President Solih's invitation so quickly", he said.
